The Emmanuel Cross Country Squad were blessed with an amazing day for the 2023 ACC Cross Country Carnival on Thursday 1 June. The Perry Lakes course looked as appealing as a Cross Country course can and our runners were primed for the event. Our coaches, Mrs Winfield and Mr Cordingley had the team in great shape after an intense training program. This program took place over many freezing early morning sessions and culminated with our Training Day held at Perry Lakes.
Our 2023 ACC Cross Country team was led by Jake (Year 12, Romero) and Lataya (Year 12, Lisieux). Both of these students have been involved in the team for a number of years and Jake in particular led by example at every training session. Through your leadership, you were able to model the values of hard work and commitment that we aim to instill in all of our runners.
On the day our u/13-u/14 runners battled it out over the 3km track, while our u/15-open students had to face the extended 4km track. In each race, our ECC runners would be facing off against approximately 350 runners from other ACC schools.
Some outstanding Top 50 finishes from Emmanuel students were:
Naomi (Year 7, More) (u/13 Girls) – 15th
Joseph (Year 7, More) (u/13 Boys) – 13th
Koby (Year 7, Francis) (u/13 Boys) – 14th
Shea (Year 8, Frassati) (u/14 Girls) – 6th
Imogen (Year 8, Teresa) (u/14 Girls) – 13th
Olivia (Year 9, Lisieux) (u/15 Girls) – 2nd
Lucy (Year 9, Lisieux) (u/15 Girls) – 19th
Acacia (Year 9, Romero) – (u/15 Girls) – 47th
Nathan (Year 10, Siena) (u/16 Boys) – 8th
Holly (Year 12, MacKillop) (Open Girls) – 28th
Jake (Year 12, Romero) (Open Boys) – 20th
To finish in the top 10 is a remarkable achievement for any student and a mention must go to Shea (Year 8, Frassati), Olivia (Year 9, Lisieux) and Nathan (Year 10, Siena) who all finished in the top 10! Furthermore, Olivia achieved one of Emmanuel’s best-ever individual results after finishing in 2nd place in the u/15 Girls! This will be Olivia’s second consectuvie appearance in the ACC All Star Cross County team, congratulations on this impressive achievement!
After achieving one of our best-ever team results in 2022, the team was eager to show that this was no fluke in 2023. When all the racing was said and done, Emmanuel finished in 7th place overall, out of 75 schools. This is another outstanding result for Emmanuel Cross Country. It’s great to see the hard work of our students and coaches being rewarded with some amazing results across the board.
A special thanks to Mr Cordingley and Mrs Winfield for coaching this year’s team, we greatly appreciate your commitment to the program. Also, thank you to Mr Stevens, Mr Gangemi and Mr Henley for your help on the day and to Brendon (Year 7, Frassati) for his attendance as part of the Emmanuel Media Team to photograph the days events.
