The sun was shining on Friday 21st June for the last College carnival for the year, the Interhouse Athletics Carnival. With an early morning start, the Phys Ed and House Teams set up for the carnival with excitement brewing amongst the eight houses. The carnival followed a tabloid rotation in the morning focusing on participation whilst students represented their Houses accumulating House Points in Shotput, Long Jump, High Jump and 800m. It was fantastic to see students giving all the events a go, and attempting a throw, jump and run stacking up House Points on the leaderboard! A highlight of the morning was the energy and excitement from the Novelty Events. With Houses battling it out in a range of tug-a-war, tunnel ball and leaderball games there was plenty of camaraderie and good sportsmanship on display.
The afternoon events saw students take on the track in the 100m, 200m, 400m, and 4×100 Relays or the Tassie Devil Walk the Talk. Competition and excitement were high amongst the tents as students got behind their Houses cheering them on at the sidelines as their House ran down the 100m straight. Relays were worth big points with the winners collecting fifty points for their House with almost every House taking out a win. The Year 11 Lisieux Boys took out the fastest boys relay with a time of 53.35, and the Year 7 Mackillop Girls took out the fastest girls relay with a time of 1:03. An exceptional effort.
2024 was a year of many records smashed across the day. Congratulations to our newest record holders: Shea Correia, Sophie Correia, Nathan Long, Olivia McCay, Olivia Risucci and Kingston Vasukicakau. It is an incredible feat to hold a College record, and these students are to be commended on their outstanding efforts.
With all Houses extremely competitive, there could be only one winner. The top three places were close with only 59 points separating 1st and 3rd which showed how close the competition was. With consistency across Pre-Carnival and Carnival events, it was Lisieux House who were deemed the Overall Winner of the 2024 Interhouse Athletics to win the House Shield. Further with an unwavering array of dedication, teamwork and sound sportsmanship, it was Frassati House who took out the Tassie Devil Award!
As always, we like to acknowledge the outstanding individual performances by students at the carnival. Congratulations to all of our Individual Champions and Records shown in the tables below.
A big thank you to our College Community for their support and assistance throughout the day. A special mention must go to the PE Team and Maintenance Team for their hard work and efforts in the lead up to the carnival and throughout the day. House Coordinators and PC Teachers for driving House Spirit and for your help on the day and in the lead up with nominations. Hospitality and the Canteen for providing delicious food and drinks throughout the event, and to Local Media Solutions Company and our College AV Team for providing the livestream and audio throughout our event.
Well done to all staff and students for their efforts across the Athletics Carnival in making it an outstanding day and providing an incredible atmosphere throughout the Carnival.
