Emmanuel’s Interhouse Cross Country took place at the beginning of Term 2, Week 3 and was a great way to kick off the term! Due to the construction and traffic built up around the old track, the Carnival saw Houses battling it out across a new 3.3km course. Crossing a range of terrains including grass, road, sand, and gravel, the new route finished up with an exciting sprint finish onto the football oval. Students were in good spirits demonstrating exceptional House Spirit, competitiveness, and a great sense of sportsmanship across the afternoon.
This year’s carnival was a combination of compulsory and nomination. All Year 7-11 students completed the Cross Country Carnival, while students in Year 12 had the choice to nominate for the event. It was fantastic to see the majority of students get behind their House, supporting the event and participating in walking or running the course.
2024 was another year of fantastic achievements. Firstly, a special mention to Nathan Long (Year 11 Siena) who ran the fastest time this year of 12:09min, an outstanding effort on the new course. Secondly, well done to Olivia McCay who set a new ECC record for the Year 10 Girls with a speedy time of 13:46min!
Throughout the afternoon it was a close battle between the Houses with each runner contributing valuable House points. However, it was Lisieux who came out on top and was crowned House Champion by 14 points, breaking Teresa’s previous two-peat victory. Lisieux had many runners with several securing the podium finish which helped to cement their win and place in ECC Cross Country Carnival history.
As always, we like to acknowledge the outstanding individual performances by students at the carnival. Congratulations to all of our Individual Champions shown in the table below.
A big thank you to our Physical Education Department, their classes, and our Maintenance Team who helped set-up the day. These events are not possible without the help of our incredible staff who contribute and support the event. Your help is appreciated so much and enables the carnival to run so smoothly! Thank you also to the P&F for their support in supplying students with essential hydration and a killer python at the end of every race.
Finally, congratulations to all students who participated on the day. Cross Country can be a challenging event; however, it demonstrates a lot of courage, resilience, and perseverance to finish the course to your personal best. Well done to all competitors on your outstanding efforts!
